Monkey Kapala Skull #00431

This is a decorated kapala made from a real monkey skull!

Decorated kapalas made from human skull caps were originally used in rituals or to hold offerings in both Hindu Tantra and Buddhist Tantra. Kapalas created from other animal skulls and parts were later made for the tourist trade, but these pieces are rare, valuable, and highly coveted in collections.
Originally from Skulls Unlimited, this beautiful and elaborately-decorated piece is made from the real skull of a monkey (likely Semnopithecus schistaceus, the Nepal langur). It is in great vintage condition with minor losses, done in a more “old style” than some later tourist pieces. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
This specimen is not from an ESA-listed species and is legal to sell and possess. US sales only, sorry!
