Japanese Raccoon Dog Taxidermy Mount #00564
This is the taxidermy mount of a Japanese raccoon dog!
Neither raccoon nor dog, raccoon dogs are primitive fox-like canids native to East Asia. They resemble raccoons with their mask-like facial markings, stocky body, and short fluffy tail. The Japanese raccoon dog or tanuki is considered a distinct species from the mainland common raccoon dog.
Sourced from a US estate, this is a unique mid-century anthropomorphic mount of the species. He holds a sake jug and is wearing a mino, a traditional Japanese raincoat made of rice straw. The original skull is inside. Mounts like this are a rare find outside of Japan. This special mount is in good vintage condition overall with some minor age-related issues. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
This specimen is not from an ESA-listed species and is legal to sell and possess. US sales only, sorry!
