Fossil Brontothere Tooth #00637

This is the tooth of a Brontothere!

Brontotheres were a family of early perissodactyls related to rhinos, tapirs, and horses that lived around 56–34 million years ago during the Eocene. Later forms resembled rhinos with paired facial horns. They were some of the earliest mammals to evolve large body size, with some species standing up to 2.5 meters tall.
Acquired from an old US estate, this is an excellent large upper molar tooth from the North American genus Megacerops (previously Brontotherium and Titanotherium). It measures 5 inches long and 3 inches tall and is in excellent condition with intact roots. It is mounted on a plaster stand and has no restoration. These teeth are rare and attractive collector’s items. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
A fossil, this specimen is not from an ESA-listed species and is legal to sell and possess. US sales only, sorry!
