Melanistic Groundhog Taxidermy Mount #00659

This is the taxidermy mount of a melanistic groundhog!

The groundhog or woodchuck is a large squirrel native to North America. It is a large sciurid, with some specimens weighing over 13 pounds. The typical groundhog has a grizzled brown coat, but all black (melanistic) and albino examples have been rarely recorded.
This is an really cool vintage mount of a melanistic specimen. Melanism, an excess of melanin, is sometimes even rarer than albinism in mammals, though it is more common in certain populations if there is an evolutionary advantage to the coloration. This is the only example we’ve seen. It is in good vintage condition with minor losses. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
This specimen is not from an ESA-listed species and is legal to sell and possess. US sales only, sorry!
