This is the fossil jaw of a tapir!

The Vero tapir (Tapirus veroensis) was a tapir species native to North America during the Pleistocene. It was closely related to extant South American tapirs and went extinct approximately 11,000 years ago.
Sourced from an old Florida collection, this is a fantastic jaw section with a striking and gorgeous natural purple coloration. The purple color comes from a type of algae and it will remain on the specimen unless you scrape it off. This specimen has two partial and two complete molars preserved. All extant tapir species are protected, so if you want legal and ethical tapir material, a fossil is the way to go! Please review all pictures and description for condition.
