This is a pair of subfossil antler tines of an extinct eastern elk!

The elk or wapiti is a deer species native to North America and Asia. It is one of the largest extant deer, with males of the largest subspecies exceeding 1000 pounds in weight. The eastern elk (Cervus canadensis canadensis) is an extinct subspecies of elk that once inhabited the central and northeastern United States. It was declared extinct in 1880, though the last record of the subspecies in Iowa was 1885.
This is a pair of highly-textured tine fragments from the extinct subspecies with a beautiful river-stained patina. They were found in Iowa. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
