This is the skull of an Asian openbill stork!

The Asian openbill stork (Anastomus oscitans) is a large wading bird native to Southeast Asia. It is named for its unique bill that only touches at the tip and base when closed. The gap in the bill is thought to aid the bird in handling snails, its preferred prey. The skull of this species is rare in collections.
This is a beautiful mature example of the species in excellent condition. This skull was acquired from a US collection. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
