Fossil Cave Hyena Jaw #01133

This is the fossil jaw of a cave hyena!

The cave hyena (Crocuta crocuta spelaea) is an extinct subspecies of the modern spotted hyena that was native to Eurasia in the Pleistocene. It was about 60% larger than modern spotted hyenas and adapted to the cold. Cave hyena fossils, like their modern counterparts, are highly coveted in collections.
Sourced from a US collection, this is an excellent jaw section with three complete teeth. It was found in South Wales, an unusual and rare locality. (Note that it is not from the University of Cambridge, but from the collection of a collector named P. Cambridge). Please review all pictures and description for condition.
This specimen is not from an ESA-listed species and is legal to sell and possess. US sales only, sorry!
