This is the skull of a spotted hyena!

The spotted hyena is a large feliform carnivore native to sub-Saharan Africa. The species has an undeserved bad reputation as a cowardly scavenger. In reality, spotted hyenas are active hunters and highly intelligent with complex social lives. Hyena skulls are highly coveted and getting harder to find.
This is an excellent extra large example of the species with an interesting pathological growth on the back of the cranium. It measures just under a foot long. It is missing a few teeth, but its size and unique features more than make up for it! Please review all pictures and description for condition.
