Tar Pit Fossil Beetle Cybister sp. 2 #01607

This is a fossil Ice Age beetle!
This fossil features the preserved body of a large Pleistocene water beetleĀ (Cybister sp.) in its original tar matrix. Sourced from an old collection, this specimen was originally collected decades ago from the McKittrick Tar Pits area.
This excellent fossil is in fantastic condition with beautiful color and solid preservation. It even still has that asphalt smell! Interestingly, this beetle was preserved on its back with the belly exposed. Usually these are found with the carapace facing upwards, so this one is unique! Please review all pictures and description for condition.
A fossil, this specimen is not from an ESA-listed or otherwise protected species and is legal to sell and possess. US sales only, sorry!
