Fossil Tremarctos Short-Faced Bear Canine #01667

This is the fossil canine of a short-faced bear!

Today, tremarctine or short-faced bears are represented only by the small spectacled bear in South America, but the family was much more diverse up until the end of the Pleistocene. The largest bears that ever lived were short-faced bears, and they ranged across both North and South America.
This is a beautiful and rare large canine from a male Tremarctos floridanus, the Florida spectacled bear. This tooth measures 2 1/2 inches long and is in good condition with a great root and most of the crown preserved. This specimen was sourced from an old US collection and was legally collected. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
A fossil, this specimen is not from an ESA-listed species and is legal to sell and possess. US sales only, sorry!
