This is the skull of a domestic chicken!
The chicken is the domesticated form of the red junglefowl, a tropical bird native to South and Southeast Asia. It was first domesticated approximately 8000 years ago and is now found worldwide.
This is a nice example of the species with the sclerotic rings intact. It was beetle-cleaned and whitened in strong hydrogen peroxide. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
This specimen is a legal bird skull – it is not from an ESA- or MBTA-listed species and is legal to sell and possess. US sales only, sorry!
