Domestic Dog Skull #00944

This is the skull of a domestic dog!

First domesticated over 15,000 years ago from an now-extinct wolf lineage, the dog was the first species to be domesticated by humans. Today, there are hundreds of distinct dog breeds that vary widely in size, appearance, and behavioral traits.
This is a nice example of the dolichocephalic (long-headed) type with a pathological growth on the mandible, likely osteosarcoma or similar. The exact breed of this specimen is unknown, but it resembles a large hound. It has some residual tissue on the back of the skull and is missing a few teeth, but is in good shape otherwise. Please review all pictures and description for condition.
